PGATOUR.COM – Daily Wrap-up: Round 3, Transitions Championship.

Justin Rose has quickly snapped back into form after a terrific 2010 season, and will be looking to break through in 2011 on Sunday. Rose fired an impressive round of 6-under 65 on Saturday to take sole possession of the lead, at 13-under par. Brendon de Jonge and Webb Simpson are only a shot back at 12-under. Scott Stallings and Gary Woodland are two shots back at 11-under. And after a solid round of 6-under 65 on Saturday, Nick Watney finds himself only 3 shots back and certainly within reach to go back-to-back consecutive weeks, after his impressive win last week at the WGC Cadillac Championship. Watney is currently at 10-under par, along with Chris Couch, Garrett Willis, and Brandt Snedeker.

The Golf Channel will offer early coverage of the Transitions starting at 1:00, and NBC will take over the coverage starting at 3:00 p.m.

Should be a good finish!

PGATOUR.COM – Daily Wrap-up: Round 1, Transitions Championship.

I’d like to say that I caught some quality action of the tournament today, but all I saw for 2-and-a-half hours on my television was guys stalking 10 footers on the greens. 125 putts… I’m still miffed!

I cut away from March Madness for this crap?

Why TV Viewer Ratings for Pro Golf Suck

I really should get some sort of medal for this, if not the distinguished Medal of Freedom – at least some sort of Humanitarian Ribbon…. But once again I go out of my way to keep my readers informed of things that just piss me off royally. And I must say that hideously atrocious golf coverage will give me a wedgie quicker than a high school bully…. I mean today’s coverage on the Golf Channel was literally unwatchable…. And they had the gall to talk about how beautiful, how difficult, and how masterful a layout that the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook really is!

But according to what I charted today, I’m left with the only conclusion that this has to be the longest Executive Course in America!

Here’s the breakdown of shot coverage, by the hour:

HOUR ONE

Tee Shots on Par4′s and Par5′s:  0

Par3 Tee Shots: 15

Approach Shots: 7

Shots Around the Green: 7

Putts: 39

(at this point, you may be wondering to yourself “Hey, is the Copperhead Course a par3?” The answer to that is NO, it is not a par3 course. But you would never know that in the first hour of coverage…)

HOUR TWO

Tee Shots on Par4′s and Par5′s:  1  (after 1 hr and 40 minutes into the coverage – one single tee shot with driver is shown…)

Par3 Tee Shots: 17

Approach Shots: 13

Shots Around the Green: 9

Putts: 40

(at this point in the telecast you have probably decided to make better use of your time by rearranging the sock drawer or removing the winter clothing from the closet. But the 3rd hour is always more exciting, right? Think again….)

HOUR THREE

Tee Shots on Par4′s and Par5′s:  4  (all of which came at the 2-hour and 8 minute mark)

Par3 Tee Shots: 15

Approach Shots: 20

Shots Around the Green: 11

Putts: 46  (at one point midway thru the 3rd hour of coverage they showed 10 consecutive putting attempts)

TOTAL SHOTS COVERED DURING 3 HR TELECAST

Total Tee Shots on Par4′s and Par5′s:  5

Total Par3 Tee Shots: 47

Total Approach Shots: 40

Total Shots Around the Green: 27

Total Putts:  125

In closing…. if you enjoy watching guys hem-haul around for 2 minutes sizing up 4 footers, ala Jim Furyk, then you were in hog-heaven today because you got 3 hours of it…. 125 putts? Are you kidding me? THIS WAS TOTALLY UNWATCHABLE!

Should be a good tournament this week, with a lot of players trying to get their games primed for the upcoming Masters tournament just around the corner. Defending champ Jim Furyk is hoping to find something this week that might turn around his sluggish start to this season, and last week’s winner Nick Watney will try to see if he can win back-to-back.
